What makes therapy with me different?

Body and Nervous System
I use somatic approaches to therapy. This means that I pay attention not just to what you are saying, but to how your body reacts and responds. Somatic approaches (drawn my training in EMDR and from Somatic Experiencing) can help when you know how things can't change, but things like anxiety, panic, fear, anger, or freeze are getting in the way. Somatic approaches are some of the most effective ways to address trauma and patterns carried from a difficult childhood.

Relationships
Whether you are in individual or couples therapy with me, we will focus on your relationships. Drawing from my training in Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT), I will help you identify negative cycles you may be trapped in with a partner or a family member, and ways that you can navigate out of these cycles together. My goal as a therapist is to support your relationships, and to help them thrive. I do my best to help you to stay connected in safety and vulnerability with your loved ones.

Community
Therapy with me is about building and strengthening connection with your community. One of the best ways to navigate things like depression, anxiety, and PTSD is to access your support system. The work starts in therapy, but the real work comes with the courage to make changes in the way you show up with friends, at work, and with family. For this reason, I often refer to support groups and outside resources, as well as my own groups and workshops.
Services
I am licensed in the state of Iowa to provide mental health counseling. I accept all Wellmark, Blue Cross, Blue Shield, and Anthem Plans, as well as private pay options.

Individual Therapy

Couples Counseling
